Stop Trying to Qualify Free Speech!

Its high time people stopped blaming Western cartoonists for the murders committed by radical Muslims.  Our 1st Amendment protects free speech, not only the speech YOU like or approve of, but ALL speech.  What’s more offensive, cartoons of some long dead jihadist being hailed as a prophet or videos of living breathing jihadists sawing off peoples heads with rusty old jack knives being posted all over the internet and shown by news outlets? The same hyporcritical agenda driven news outlets that refuse to show photos of good old Mohammad.  This country’s political history is rife with contentious, some may say divisive political debate, writings and yes, even cartoons.  This is not a new phenomenon brought on by the Muslim whack jobs who would kill us whether we criticize them or not, as they did on 9-11.  It was a common practice of our founding fathers despite the fact it could have cost them their very lives for being a traitor to the throne.   Some deemed it necessary to author their political writings using noms de plum, to mask their true identity and ensure their personal safety.   One of our more notable Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin, was a prolific political writer who used numerous pen names over the course of his life including Polly Baker, an alias he used to object to the puritan standards women were held to in his day,  Alice Addertongue, whereby he penned scandalous gossip about the high and mighty of his day and, Benevolous who Franklin used to contest how America was portrayed in the British press.

Our modern day media elite, elitist social icons like Bill O’Reilly and Donald Trump, religious leaders like Franklin Graham and sadly, countless others, have forgotten their history for what they determine to be politically expedient.  Thankfully, it’s not up to them.   Nor can it be because invariably, when individuals, no matter how well intentioned THEY THINK they start deciding what rights others get to exercise, you’ll lose them.  Thankfully the Constitution of the United States still protects us, at least for now…
